Prepare supplies.

1. Choose a shirt with a patch pocket, and a contrasting fabric for your new pocket.

2. Trace along outside of the shirt pocket with chalk pencil. This will create a frame for the placement of your new pocket.

3. Remove existing shirt pocket with stitch ripper.

Create new patch pocket.

1. Once pocket has been removed, open all seams and iron pocket piece flat. Pin pocket piece to wrong side of contrasting fabric.

2. Trace outline of pocket piece with contrasting chalk pencil.

3. Cut out along chalk pencil outline.

Hint: You should fold and press pocket to match fold lines of your original pocket.

4. Fold back, pin, and press all edges of pocket piece by ¼” (0.5 cm).

5. Fold back top of pocket again by 5/8” (1.5 cm). Pin. Press. Sew a straight line along the bottom of the folded edge with a ¼” (0.5 cm) seam allowance.

Attach new pocket.

1. Pin pocket in place, within the traced pocket chalk frame.

2. Top stitch along outside edges of pocket, leaving the top open.
